How it works
Every hour, we ask Google Safe Browsing whether your site is flagged for malware, social engineering (phishing), unwanted software or potentially harmful applications.
Chrome, Firefox and Safari use this list. When your site is on it, visitors see a full-page red warning before they can reach you, and most of them leave. A site is usually flagged because it was hacked, so this check is also an early warning of a compromise.
Statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| OK | Your site is not flagged. |
| Warning | Safe Browsing could not be reached. |
| Failed | Your site is flagged. The report shows the threat type. |
By default you are notified of warnings and failures.
Fixing common problems
- Sign in to Google Search Console for your site. The Security issues report shows the affected pages.
- Find and remove the malicious content: injected scripts, unknown files, new admin users, outdated plugins. Then change every password and key.
- Request a review in Search Console. Once Google confirms the site is clean, the warning is removed, usually within a day.
