Keyword

Checks that your page contains, or does not contain, the text you choose. Useful to catch error messages or a page that loads but shows the wrong content.

This check is off by default. Enable it and set the text under Active checks on the monitor.

How it works

Every 5 minutes, we download your page and search its raw response for the text you choose. The search is case-insensitive and includes the HTML markup, so it also finds text in titles, attributes and scripts.

Use it to catch problems that a status code does not show: a page that loads but shows an error message, a checkout without its "Add to cart" button, or a site that was replaced by a maintenance or parking page.

Settings

Setting Default What it does
Must contain — Text that must appear on the page, e.g. Add to cart.
Must not contain — Text that must not appear, e.g. Fatal error.

Statuses

Status Meaning
OK The page contains the required text and none of the forbidden text.
Failed The required text is missing, the forbidden text appears, or we could not connect.

By default you are notified of warnings and failures.

Tips

  • Choose text that only appears when the page works, such as a product name or a footer link, not text that is also on error pages.
  • To check text on several pages, or JSON values, use the API assertion check, which has more rules.
